Express Entry Program
Canadian Experience Class (CEC)
A permanent residence pathway for individuals with recent skilled Canadian work experience.
Program overview
The Canadian Experience Class (CEC) allows individuals with qualifying Canadian work experience to transition from temporary status to permanent residence.
Applications are managed through the Express Entry system and typically prioritize candidates who are already integrated into the Canadian labour market. CEC does not require proof of settlement funds, making it a common pathway for workers already living in Canada.
Who CEC is best suited for
CEC is generally most suitable for temporary residents who have worked in Canada in skilled roles and plan to continue their careers here.
- • Temporary foreign workers with skilled Canadian experience

Qualifying Canadian work experience
Canadian work experience must be paid and acquired while the applicant was authorized to work in Canada. IRCC closely reviews job duties, hours, and employer documentation to confirm eligibility.
- • Full-time or equivalent part-time employment counts
- • Multiple employers may be combined if requirements are met
- • Self-employment generally does not qualify
- • Unauthorized or volunteer work does not count
Language requirements
Minimum language requirements depend on the NOC TEER level of the qualifying work experience. Valid test results must be submitted at the time of application.
- • TEER 0 or 1 occupations require higher CLB levels
- • TEER 2 or 3 occupations have lower minimum CLB thresholds
- • Language test results must be valid on the date of application
