Express Entry
Express Entry system was introduced in January 2015 to help Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) to choose residents for permanent citizenship based on their skills and experience. It is a two-step online process based on a ranking system.
If the candidate wants to qualify under Express Entry stream, then, he/she needs to create an online profile to enter the pool so to compete with other candidates. After that, an assessment is made based on the candidate’s marital status, age, education, work experience, language skills and other factors by the system.
The system, then, generates scores based on the provided information and documents. An applicant can increase his/her scores by improving language skills and by arranging an employment offer from a Canadian employer.
Top candidates with highest scores receive the invitation by CIC to apply for the permanent resident status. The Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) has a maximum of 1200 points. The candidate has to apply for their permanent resident status to CIC within 60 days. It takes 4-6 months to process the application.
Note: The candidates stay in the pool for a maximum of 12 months.
The candidate may need to create a new profile if he/she does not receive an invitation within the 12 months.
